Looking for more Block Captains and more participation from neighbors.

We need at least 50% of the 1100+ homeowners/renters to get involved in order to continue to make progress.  PLEASE invite your neighbor to the next meeting.

  • Crime Prevention Districts Representative attended the meeting to discuss:

  • What is a Crime Prevention District?

  • What is the Purpose of a Crime Prevention District?

  • How are Crime Prevention Districts funded?

  • Who is on the Crime Prevention District Board?
     

  • HOA (Home Owners Association) VS. Crime Prevention District:
    Crime Prevention Districts are public taxing districts created and operated in accordance with the laws of any other public body.
    Crime Prevention Districts are public bodies requiring the following: 
         Appointed board members
         Public meetings which must comply with Open Meetings Law (LSA-R.S.42:11-42:28)
         Budgets that are annually checked by the State Legislative Auditor

  • Determine Police Patrol

  • Cadence of Members Meetings

  • Email Account, Website, Postage, Flyers, Membership

  • Questions/Concerns

  • Elected Officers of the Civic Association

  • Presented some issues to Police Representatives (Crime/Drug and Blight Divisions)

  • Provided attendees information to report issues in neighborhoods
